Leadership Gilroy is a dynamic ten-month program in which participants develop vital leadership and team-building skills, gain a deeper understanding of the local community, and design a service project.

Leadership Training

Program participants receive training in a wide range of topics, including:

  • Team building
  • Communications
  • Ethics
  • Diversity
  • Change management
  • Conflict resolution
  • Media training

Community Awareness

The program also provides opportunities to meet key leaders, expand networks, and learn about vital community issues, including:

  • Economic development
  • Local, regional, and state government
  • Education and social services
  • Public health and safety
  • Agriculture and the environment

Community Service Project

As part of the program, class members perform a community service project. As they work together to select, plan, and implement the project, they get a chance to put all the new skills they’ve learned to work – and make a difference in the community, too.

Recent Leadership Gilroy class projects include:

  • HEARTSafe Gilroy and AED Campaign
  • Spokes4Folks Bicycle Drive
  • Have a Sole Shoe Drive
  • Gilroy Farmers’ Market
  • Gilroy Demonstration Garden
  • Education and volunteer activities for youth
  • Hygiene supplies for the homeless
